Borrowers may consent to share account username and password information with Blend. In order to obtain financial information on the borrower's behalf, Blend sends these credentials to an industry-leading third party data access provider (Plaid).
If your borrower is hesitant about connecting their financial institution accounts in the Blend Assets section, there are some tips you can provide for information and peace of mind.
- Connecting assets allows these accounts (and their accurate balances) to be refreshed through the duration of the loan origination process. This is helpful when underwriting approval is conditional on updated assets.
- Additionally, connecting financial accounts in this manner is far more secure than a borrower emailing their account statements.
- If the borrower is not comfortable connecting their financial accounts, uploading their statement docs through Blend is the preferred fallback.
Below, please see the borrower's experience when prompted to connect Assets. There are 3 links highlighting security guidance for the borrower:
- "What happens when I link my account?"
- "What are the different types of accounts I can use?"
- "How is my data protected?"
